The proposed loan origination and credit appraisal system, screen by screen, shown with VCL’s first product, the Business Loan. Read this first; every step links to the screen it describes.

2 One application, end to end

Follow Arun Sample, a sole proprietor running a grocery shop, applying for ₹ 5,00,000 over 60 months at main branch. Each step opens the screen it describes.

  1. 1
ApplicantArun Sample applies on a smartphoneInitiated → Submitted

The applicant verifies the mobile number with a code, completes four short steps about the applicant and the business, reviews the consents and accepts them with a second code. The application number appears at once and arrives by SMS.

Branch staffOr: Fathima Sample applies at the branchInitiated

With only a basic phone, the applicant is helped by S. Example, who keys the application. Consent is never given by staff: a code goes to the applicant’s own mobile, and the application exists only once the applicant gives that code.

    EveryoneThe application queue

Every application with its status, who holds it and how many days it has waited against the target. An application on hold carries the reason.

VerifierV. Example verifies the fileUnder Verification → Verified

Settles each verification item. The credit report is uploaded as a PDF: either one the applicant obtained, or one VCL pulled under its own bureau membership — only the second can support an approval. The report is read automatically; the verifier checks what it flags.

    AppraiserA. Example appraisesRecommended

Reviews each obligation (weekly microfinance instalments are converted to monthly), compares what was declared with what was verified and uses the less favourable, and sees the eligible maximum the system derives. A missing instalment is shown as Not reported and the figures as Not final — never as zero. The scorecard is advice only. A. Example recommends ₹ 5,00,000.

The amount and the score each set a level, and the higher applies: ₹ 5,00,000 with a score of 742 goes to level 1, the Branch Manager. Left undecided for 16 hours, it escalates to the next level — so C. Example, Credit Head, now holds it. Whoever recommended cannot approve. The approver approves, rejects or returns it with a reason.

After provisional approval, D. Example allocates the residence, business and guarantor visits. F. Example records each on the phone, with or without a signal, and the coordinator reviews the visits before the decision.

With their mobile number and a fresh code, on their own phone. Every change of status also sends an SMS; staff see each message and its delivery.

3 Who uses what

One person may hold more than one role in a small branch; the system enforces the order of the work, and that whoever recommends an application cannot approve it. Solution FRD §3
